Stamford Shotokan Karate Club held a special training course and grading at the Queen Eleanor Technical College on Saturday 30th August.
Students came from as far as Dereham and Norwich to train under the direction of Sensei Terry Wittkopp 4th Dan.
Starting at 10am, the students were first taken through a lengthy warm-up session by Sensei James Atkins 3rd Dan from the Norwich Club.
As the weather was good, this involved a 30 minute outdoor session after the usual aerobic/stretching exercises. This was well received by the students who were then looking forward to the training. Sensei Wittkopp took them through some basic techniques and Kata exercises followed by Kumite with partners.
After taking a short break at 12am, the session continued until 2.00pm where the hall was cleared for the grading to start at 2.15pm.
Successful students were:-
Gus de Verteuil….6th Kyu.
Adam Speirs……..Shodan (First degree Black Belt)
Marcus Court…….Shodan (First degree Black Belt)
David Court……. Nidan (Second degree Black Belt)
Club Instructor Bill Wittkopp was proud of his students who put a lot of effort and training into their grading, which included an oral exam for those taking Dan Grades.
They all received very high marks and were very deserving of their grades.
Gus de Verteuil was also awarded the trophy for best student, which is given for the student showing the best etiquette, effort in normal training sessions and care when partnering another student.
Anyone interested in joining should ring 01780 740859,or 01780 766193 or turn up at the Queen Eleanor College Main hall on Thursday evenings at 6.45 providing they aged 8yrs or older. (No upper age limit!)
